04Service with purpose

The fight that carries his name.

In honor of Brother Lou Gehrig, Phi Delta Theta is committed to supporting families affected by ALS, raising awareness, and advancing the search for treatments and a cure.

01Our philanthropic commitment

Live Like Lou.

Leave ALS better than we found it.

Phi Delta Theta launched the Live Like Lou Foundation in 2017 to carry that work at national scale: supporting families affected by ALS, funding ALS research to find treatments or a cure, and honoring Lou Gehrig’s legacy.

Brother Lou Gehrig, Columbia ’25, is the reason. He gave the disease the name most people still know it by, and he met it with the courage this Fraternity asks of its members.

Phi Delt chapters strengthen that mission through hands-on service, fundraising, and advocacy — including Iron Phi, which turns athletic goals into support for ALS families. NC Epsilon takes part as a chapter, not as a line item.

“Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.”

A Phi Delt at Columbia before he was a Yankee, Gehrig faced the disease that now carries his name with a grace the Fraternity still holds up to every member. Live Like Lou exists so that his story keeps changing outcomes for ALS families.

03NC Epsilon in action

Service is part of the standard.

Phi Delt asks more of its members than a social calendar. Philanthropy is where that shows.
